london calling. part one.
Posted: October 9, 2010 in people, photography, travelTags: london, london speakeasy, street photography, the tube, theatre arts club
aside from being extremely hassled at the UK border & and being kicked out on on the curb of a snooty hotel i was invited to stay at…LONDON WAS AH-MAZING.
i was fortunate to have one ms. erin penn-ah meet me my first night and make things uber delightful after we found a carpeted ceiling basement club selling teapot cocktails with a debbie harry look-a-alike DJ, playing classic british punk & ska tunes…what one envisioned london to be in the early 80’s. after dancing the night away, the rest of the days entailed mary poppins adventures with nanny penn-ah, late night carousing with a fine english lad & his friends, an east end street art tour and the quintessential sight seeing of central london, complete with fake police hats and standing guard.
ps. londoners are the most fashionable people on the planet. heart them.

magical, mystical michigan trip.

i’d been telling my dear friend doug that i was going to make it to michigan someday. one way or another i usually pull through and surprise people with something they maybe never thought was going to happen. i like to do what i say i’m going to do. the thing about dougie is we bring out the kid in each other, so it’s lots of fun making noises and monster faces, dancin, spazzin, gigglin & chillin. on a serious note, he’s also amazing at body healing, helping me break down life, see deeper insights and focus on the things that matter. we also ate amazing root veggie wraps, drank healing chaga mushroom tea cut from the bark of a tree and fresh water from an underground spring. add a bonus day trip to gorgeous lake leeanau on an antique wooden boat with jeff jackson and the sum equals a magical, mystical, much needed michigan trip! love you guys.
so my dear friend derek invited me to indulge in a few days of beach bliss on the jersey shore. thanks to his family for taking in a complete stranger and making me kiss a lobster. we spent alot of time on the beach house rooftop…talking, chilling, dancing, singing and drinking. basically i never wanted to leave that rooftop and slept on the lawn chair for 3 nights under the gorgeous moon. seriously, the ocean air was like honeydew. some of the best nights of the summer.
coney island is bananas.

you know those places that you’re certain you will get to someday, but you just don’t know when? the nostalgic draw of coney island has been looming for days, months, years!! i had really wanted to experience it with my dear P, but we sadly never got the chance. finally made it there (unplanned) on the busiest of all saturdays…for the mermaid parade no less. i was actually on my way to the opposite end of the city when i bumped into some hot mermaids on the subway. they immediately took me under their flippers and tried to transform me into one of them, slathering me with glitter and gold and enticing me to take my top off. ha! as the story goes, we arrived too late to see all the floats and the king, LOU REED, himself…but i finally got to cash in on the freakshow and clam boob oogling i waited so long for. next time i’m going to try a weekday night.

the first inkling that i knew brooklyn was in my blood might have been 1987 when i found out about the beastie boys…and that feeling was revisited hardcore when i finally made my first visit in 1997. in that 10 year span, movies like ‘crooklyn’ & ‘kids’ jolted my senses and left deep indents on my soul. maybe too, it was telling that the only guy that ever asked me to marry him was from brooklyn. it is now 2010 and i’m finally ‘here’ here….fresh off the boat!
